Jack is one of our two Farm Link Workers, hosted by the Peak District National Park Authority and delivering the Future Farmscapes project alongside Andrew. He will be providing a first port of call for farmers and landowners wishing to engage with the Landscape Partnership. Jack’s role will be to represent the views of farmers within the partnership, assist them with bids for funding as well as liaising with project officers to support any works being carried out.
Having grown up in the Peak District, Jack studied for a BSc in Agriculture at Sutton Bonnington-Nottingham University. This focused on livestock production science and farm business management. His dissertation looked into how environmental sustainability is balanced against food security and agricultural productivity.
Jack has worked on several mixed estates shepherding large sheep flocks plus suckler cows. Most recently he was the Herd Manager for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust helping to set up and manage a county wide conservation grazing enterprise.
Alongside his other work Jack has his own flock of sheep run on rented ground. The flock is made up of a mixture of commercial breeds as well as pedigree Texels.
