Description | As part of our project called 'Upstream Thinking' which has received some funding from a Water Environment Grant, we are going to be doing some blanket bog restoration work. This will involve carrying rolls of sphagnum moss plug plants onto the moor, using wooden dibbers to make small holes in the peat, planting the plugs and ensuring they are firmed in. In addition we will be making records of where we have planted the plugs, using quadrats, GPS, fixed point photography and measurements. The site is on an area of moorland not far from the Winking Man pub, just off the A53 Leek to Buxton Road. We will need to be flexible depending on weather conditions so we will confirm the activity with you the day before. More sphagnum planting will take place in the late winter so don't worry, you won't miss out! As this work is taking place on open moorland in the autumn, weather conditions may be uncomfortable so you will need to ensure you are properly dressed with warm and waterproof clothing and footwear, plus a hat and gloves. We will provide all equipment needed, plus some warm drinks. To sign up please register as a SWPLP Volunteer via this link. It's quick and easy! Schedule of Sphagnum Planting Shifts (Subject to weather and will be confirmed the day before). Can register for 1 shift or multiple. We appreciate any help we can get! 29/10/2019: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM |
